-FURREH OF THE WEEK-

It's that time again!  Time to shine the spotlight one of our glorious members and make them FURREH OF THE WEEK!!  This week is a very lengthy and entertaining interview with the man, the panda, Pandaman1911!

Tell us about yourself.

Name: Christopher Balcer.
Serial Number: 10221991.
Rank: Certified Badass.
Age: Nineteen years strong.
Location: Maine, United States.
Occupation: Student at The University of Maine at Farmington.
Future Prospect: Conservational Biologist with a focus on Desert Ecology.
Race: Caucasian.
Sexual Orientation: Whatever works.
Favorite food: Seafood.
Favorite location: Tucson, Arizona.
Favorite brand of pants: Carhartt.

What's it like being a...panda? >.>

You get a lot of... well... recognition. We ain't all that common in the group, you know? At least... I haven't seen many. Now foxes, huskies, tigers, et cetera, they're a dime a dozen. Everywhere. Prolific. You'll not remember one simply for the fact that he's a fox, or a tiger, or whatever. Now, a panda? Oh yeah. You'll remember that. So people who see me tend to remember. Which makes it all the more awkward when I can't remember which of the fifteen bleedin' foxes a guy I'm talkin' to was. >.<

What brought you to the group?

Well, to trace it all the way back... Yahtzee Croshaw. Zero Punctuation drew me to The Escapist. I watched for a bit, decided the community was worth hanging around. Made an account, saw that there was a group... joined up. I don't really contribute much, unfortunately, which makes me feel like I joined the group just for the status, which is what I didn't want to happen. Been thinkin' about how I could contribute, even though I'm not really artistic and my creative writing spark went out years ago. I'll think of something eventually!

When you're not on the group, what do you like to do?

Video games! It's all about the video games. I keep my Steam Record at a 10.0 at all times, playing whatever I can. I do Xbox, too. Although I prefer single player. Don't like competitive multiplayer. Not against human players, anyway. It's not fun. Bots? I love bots. Bots don't camp. Or scream obscenities at you. Or go after you personally. Sorry, off track! I also like to just browse the Internet, watch YouTube, and look at p-... pictures.

What's your favorite form of entertainment?

Video games, of course. Shows are cool, but... I mean, there's just nothing that compares to interactivity.

You mostly use the live chat on the off-site forum. What makes that more appealing?

Mainly the fact that I don't have to mash F5 like I'm back in 4chan waters. I can multitask. Hear a little beep, go over, see if anything's worth saying, if not, go back to what I'm doing, if so, say something, and go back to what I'm doing. Plus the color cues make it nice and easy to distinguish users.

Speaking of appeal, why do you consider yourself furry at all?

Excellent question! One I've found myself asking... er, myself... a few times recently. I think it's mainly because I identify several of my characteristics with that of Ailuropoda melanoleuca. Slow. Big. I've even got the circles around my eyes a bit. (Thanks to sleep deprivation, though.) Lovable. Docile. I dunno, finding animalistic traits in one's self seems to be a good indication of being a furry, doesn't it? And if not, then I guess there's always the porn. That was a good indication.

Anyone in the group you consider to be a close friend?

Got plenty of friends, too many to list, really. Although the person I knew from the beginning, really... I think the first person I started talking to, really, was Cingal, AKA The Lunatic. We talk a lot, about a lot of different things, both serious and silly/stupid.

Anything else you'd like to say while you have time?

Just wanted to say I appreciate all everyone does for the group, so on and so forth. This has all had a lot of time and effort put into it, and it's a shame I haven't managed to contribute much to it. The group, I mean.

Thanks for the interview

Oh, no, thank YOU.

Oh, and Portal 2 is effin' awesome, right?

Yeah, it was. Biggest improvement over the previous was the music, I felt. Not the end songs, those were cute, but nothing rivals Still Alive. I just like how they integrated music into the gameplay more. Made it more integral, more organic, relate it more to what you were doing than the first, where it was just background music played occasionally.

Peace be the Furry?

Yeah... I guess until we've massed enough weapons, peace is our only option.

-ARTISTIC MONDAY-

Artistic Monday is quickly becoming my favorite time of the week.  I'm loving all the work that this group puts into their talent, whatever it may be.  And we have no shortage of artwork today, so let's get started.

Dsaprox is first up this week, with a drawing of a random dragon he's dubbed....um...Random Dragon >.>

You can see more from Dsaprox at his DeviantArt account, where he specializes in TF drawings.  He is also a writer.

Next up, PoisonUnagi provided us another audio sampling.  Sadly, Inkbunny is dumb and doesn't allow embedding, so you'll just have to go to the page yourself to see it.

And also, for convenience, here is his entire Inkbunny profile

JakXT now graces Artistic Monday with his presence.  He was working hard until the deadline to give us this drawing of himself as CommanderVideo in the world of BIT.TRIP Runner.  Clearly a good ammount of effort went into this drawing.

As always, you can see more of Jak's work at his DeviantArt account.

And Fox KITSUNE makes it three for three on AM appearances with his Furry Nation flag.

As always, we want your submissions for Artistic Monday.  Submissions accepted until time of publication, but try to get them in as soon as possible.  Send all submissions in a PM to TheTygerfire

 -DJ FUR w/ JamesJoltWolf-

And now, two special requests from Mosesj

 -Games of the Week-

No, not the podcast segment.  This is the section that reminds you of all the newest and biggest games hitting shelves this week.  (based off North American dates).  Seems the PS3 is kicking ass this weekWii owners also have something to be excited for.

CONDUIT 2: Wii

SOCOM 4: PS3

MORTAL KOMBAT: 360, PS3

PORTAL 2: 360, PS3, PC

-FURREH OF THE WEEK-

The Aussie's are taking over!  After Neokarl invaded the podcast last time we recorded, our Furreh of the Week this time around is nun other than Nunny.  hehe...I made a pun :3  To the interview!

Tell us about yourself, Nun

Hmm, well my name is Stephen Nunn, 21 year old from Victoria Australia. Rural lad, lived on a small Sheep farm for most of my life, currently studying Computer Systems Engineering. My fursona's a Cyborg Kelpie dog(wasnt originaly a cyborg but you lot are a violent bunch), i picked that because im horribly unimaginative and was getting bugged for a one.

When you're not on the Escapist, what do you enjoy doing?

Gaming mostly, though i do like to go on long walking adventures occasionaly as some of you may have heard.

How did you find the group and why did you join?

Originaly found the group when it was promoted during the old group promotion things that the escapist used to run. I joined because i wanted some place i could hang out and i happened to enjoy the Furry Fandom

What is your main appeal to being a fur?

Mostly the great community that surrounds it, pluss Anthropomorphic Animals are just fricking awesome!

There are a lot of Furrehs here, anyone you consider to be really good friends with?

I consider you all good friends :P, though if i had to pick some out they would be Fuzzbutt, Neokarl and JakXT.

What on your dream to-do list? Anything you'd like do do in the future?

Hopefully get a proper bloody job... i need money!
Other then that, traveling would be nice.

Opinion of the group?

Good, Bloody good

Least funny stereotypical Aussie quote?

Definitely would have to be "Shrimp on the barbie"
The most over used saying and on top of that we call them prawns not shrimp! Was only stated as such to appeal to American Audiences as the saying was part of a Tourist Advertisment.

Thanks for the interview, Nunny

No worries

Peace be the furry?

Peace? bah who wants peace when you can blow shit up!

-ARTISTIC MONDAY-

Do you know what time it is?.....Time for more ART! :3  And it's a special special day this week, because most of our submissions are from our groups newest members!

Our first Artistic Monday subject is also our very first art video and comes to us from PatSilverFox, who also has only been with the Furrehs for just over a week.  It also from everyone's favorite Indie game, Minecraft.  Check out some modding he's done with the in-game portraits.

Editors Note: Yes. My name is, in fact, TheTygerfire =3

Pat also has other Minecraft videos on his Youtube channel, which you can check out HERE.  Hopefully he'll provide us more content in the future.

Now time to get musical on your ass.  LeoPennworks is an Electro/House music composer and also only a week old Furreh :3  Take a listen to this track, Smashington.

See more of his music at his Soundcloud account HERE

And yet another piece from Fox KITSUNE, November City at Night

And, what's this?  TheTygerfire actually managed to get a submission in as well?

Yes, I managed to find a few sketches I made for my boyfriend back in the day (2007) :3 I'm shocked I made them, as I have not an artistic bone in my body.  Here's both of them for you...

Episode 1

Now, back to your regularly scheduled Furreh of the Week

-FURREH OF THE WEEK-
Our first topic of the new Furreh of the Week segment is one of the original admins of the group, Sleekgiant.  Let's see what he had to say...
Tell us about yourself

Sleekgiant: My name is Robert, I'm from Cullman, Alabama(hurr durr the South) and at the time of writing I'm still 20 years old(21 on June 24). My fursona(now that I have taken it back) is still a brown and white husky(I was feeling unoriginal the day I picked it and really just like huskies).

When you're not on the site, what do you enjoy doing?

SG: I frequent other sites like 4chan's /v/(Video Games) and /g/(Technology) boards as well as Youtube and play a bunch of Team Fortress 2. Aside from that I'm usually working for the local internet provider that employs me or at school. I lead a pretty fucking boring life : /

Why did you originally join the group?

SG: I was just coming to know what furries actually were and wanted to talk to others that shared my interest, although at that time the group had 40 very inactive members and chat was slower than molasses in February.

You left for a long while seemingly without a trace, why did you come back?

SG: In short, I felt I cut off the only good thing in my life, those months I was gone were filled with depression and more thoughts of suicide(just what I need : /). I literally have no one I could connect to where I live and this group is the only place I feel at home.

Your endorsement was the main reason Fox is leader of the group now. Do you think you made the right decision?

SG: I still stand behind that decision but I'm glad Tygerfire has stepped up and started adding some extra things to the group like the forums and Live chat. [Ty] and Fox together make quite the team and I hope this keeps up as this is one of the most well-organized groups on the Escapist.

If you could add one thing to the group, what would it be?

SG: I dunno, there are tons of nice things already.

Anything else you'd like to add?

SG: At the time of this interview, I have a colossal sunburn and my feet hurt :(

I'm sorry, I wasn't listening. What was that, again?

SG: I'm carrying your child.

Thanks for the interview.

SG: Who are you again, why am I naked, I feel violated :(

Peace be the Furry?

SG: Maybe?

TOP STORY

Furry - No Longer Obscure

Recent data from an independent survey and research firm has recently looked into the Furry Fandom and their influences conventions have on cities the events take place. The conclusion was not only good but GREAT. Researchers sighted and were happy to inform many that Pittsburg gains a yearly estimated economic benefit of 6 million dollars thanks to the Furry convention of Anthrocon and other cities should welcome conventions like this. If data from conventions is accurate they have concluded that by the year 2168, the entire world population would be furry in some way or form.

CON-FIDENTIAL

Welcome to the first edition of CON-Fidential, our convention showcase.  Having nothing pre-planned, today we're just going to mention all the furry cons taking place in the month of May.  At the beginning of every month we'll showcase next months cons as listed by Wikifur.

MAY CONVENTIONS

May 6th-9th: Confuzzled in Manchester, England
May 7th-9th: UA Furense in Kiev, Ukraine
May 12th-15th: Morphicon in Columbus, Ohio
May 20th-22nd: Elliot's Spring Gathering in Orlando, Florida
May 20th-22nd: FA United in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey
May 20th-22nd: ZodiaCon in Tanvald, Czech Republic

Furrehs Monday Update - April 4th, 2011

THE FURREHS UPDATE
APRIL 4TH, 2011

Share the Furrehs Update with furs you know and get the word out!

-ARTISTIC MONDAY-

Today is the first official issue of the new Furrehs Update, and we should try to start it off with some class.  Namely, some artistic credibility.  We have more than a handful of talented storytellers or artists among us, and it's time we showed off a little bit.

If you'd like to submit a story or picture for Artistic Monday, private message TheTygerfire.  Adult Content IS accepted.

We begin with some literary work by chromewarriorXIII, and he's provided the first chapter in a novel he plans to write called Red Crow.

Chapter 1

Crow swung his sword, feeling the clash of metal send shocks up his arm. He parried the following attack and countered with an upward slice. His master dodged easily and let loose a flurry of slashes that left Crow's arm numb from the reverberations.

"Okay, that is good for now," Falcon said. A single drop of sweat worked its way from his dark brown hair and down his rough face before falling from his chin to the packed dirt below. He sheathed his sword and hung his buckler from his waist. Crow hooked his claymore on his back and took off his helmet. "That was good," Falcon spoke calmly but firmly. "You should get something to eat. Then meet me back here for more training."

"Of course, Master," Crow said with a small bow. He bowed again and turned to walk inside the giant structure that was the Fiend's Tower.

~----------~

Falcon stood there for a moment, thinking about his new apprentice. Crow definitely had potential to become a great warrior. He was incredibly determined, something that could be hard to find in the Order of Akzarath. He pulled himself out of these thoughts as he sensed someone watching him. Falcon looked over his shoulder and spotted Dove walking towards him.

"Master Falcon," Dove said with the traditional short bow. Falcon observed his first apprentice. She had changed so much since the day that they first met. Her snowy white hair had been chopped short, and her matching colored wings stood strong from her well-muscled shoulders. Dove had become the leader of the Flame Tongues guild, and her once-pale skin had tanned from the fire running through her veins. Even now, the large burn scar across her right shoulder was just as visible as the day it had happened. On top of all of this, Dove had also become a personal advisor to the King and Falcon trusted her with his life.

"Dove," Falcon replied, as he thought about why it had taken him so long to take another apprentice. Dove was incredibly successful among the Order and the Eagle had been pushing him to take another apprentice for the past 173 years. Falcon knew that he should have had several apprentices from the thousand years he had lived. Falcon had been afraid that he might not be able to teach all that he had learned, but Dove had disproved that.
Dove and Falcon spent the next few minutes remembering the experiences that they had had. For the first time in a while, Falcon smiled, remembering all of the good times that he and Dove had shared. She was still young and Falcon found himself admiring her beauty. She wasn't small and delicate like many of the female servants in the Tower but was slim and muscled. There weren't many women in the Order and they were usually treated as men anyway. Falcon shook the thoughts out of his head. This was an army; there was no room for love or marriage.

~----------~

Dove must have known that Crow was returning because she bid her farewells, giving a short bow before going her own way. Crow returned from lunch just as Dove was out of sight.

"Master," Crow said, wincing a little as he bowed. Falcon had been working him to death in the week that he had been training with him. It was nothing like the training he had received in the junior training program he had grown up in.

That wasn't to say that Falcon was unfair, far from it, but he could be ruthless. The black and blue blotches on Crow's arms and chest, which he had obtained from getting bashed with Falcon's shield during training, were evidence from this.

"Let us continue from where we left off," Falcon said, drawing his sword, its blade gleaming in the afternoon sun. He unhooked his buckler shield from his waist, grasping it in his left hand. Crow reached over shoulder, grabbing the handle of his claymore. He swung it out in front of him and wrapped his other hand around the handle. Falcon looked deep into Crow's dark brown, almost black, eyes and was impressed to see that Crow had done a good job of hiding his emotions. Emotions got in the way during a fight. If you do not feel anything then there is no hesitation, and hesitation could lead to death.

They stood there, both waiting for the other to strike first. Suddenly, Falcon lunged, hacking at Crow with a grace that no one could impersonate. Crow managed to block all of the blows with his much longer blade. Then he swung, striking Falcon's shield, and sending him sliding back through the dirt. They both paused for a moment to catch their breath but before long, Falcon was back at it. Crow swung downwards, and instead of blocking with just his shield, Falcon braced it with the flat of his sword as well. Crow kept on constant pressure and observed the look on Falcon's face, which was as emotionless as before. Without warning, Falcon shoved his shield and sword to the side, sending Crow face first towards the ground. Crow spread his legs apart, creating a larger center of balance and caught himself with one hand. He began to rise when Falcon swung his blade at Crow's throat but Crow reversed his grip on the claymore and with a twist of his wrist, brought it up to defend his neck. It was similar to something that his junior trainer had utilized when fighting with daggers, and Crow was surprised to see it work with a longer blade. Once again, metal struck metal, creating the sound that gives all warriors the urge to keep fighting.

The battle raged on between them for many more minutes and all through it Falcon never seemed any more tired than before. Crow, on the other hand, had sweat dripping down his face and could feel it soaking his jet black hair under his helmet.

It took a long time, but finally, Crow let up and slid through the dirt towards Falcon before falling. As he began to rise, Falcon dealt the killing blow, stabbing through Crow's
unprotected neck. The blade shimmered in the light, phasing through Crow's skin, the spells on their weapons saving Crow's life, but Crow could still feel the sting of the blade. He let out a little grunt of pain and dropped his sword from exhaustion and tore his helmet from his head, letting it fall to the ground next to his sword. He collapsed, breathing heavily. Falcon sheathed his sword and removed it from his waist, placing it gently on the hard ground. He lay his shield next to it before sitting on the ground across from Crow who had collapsed in the dirt. Crow groaned, and slowly pulled himself into a sitting position and looked Falcon in the eyes, still seeing no trace of emotion.

After a few minutes, Crow spoke up asking "Why was I given the name Crow?"

"Many people think that they can change who they are. This however, is not true. Everybody has two personalities, one that they show and everyone else sees. This is the personality that is shaped by the events in a person's life and is called the outer personality. This other personality is one inside you, which only you can see. This can be the same as the outer personality but in most cases is not. This is called your inner personality and is the one that determines your name in the Order. The Elders have the ability to see this inner personality and through much thought and research, determine your name," Falcon explained.

"Okay, but why am I Crow?" Crow questioned.

"The crow is viewed as highly intelligent and competitive. These must be some of the traits the Elders saw in your inner personality, as well as many other traits that you share with the crow," Falcon answered.

"Do you know anything else about the crow?" Crow questioned "I want to be able to learn more about myself. I don't know where I came from, or who my parents are, so I want to at least know who I am. Then I'll feel like I know something."

"It would be better for you to learn this on your own. You could go to the Archives and find files on others who shared your name," Falcon said, before his face changed, as if he regretted saying it. "There may be some information on the bird itself there as well," he continued, as if nothing had happened.

"Thank you Master."

"I have nothing else for you today, go rest up for tomorrow. We shall continue our training then," Falcon said after a moment. Crow always liked how Falcon said "our training" as if it wasn't just Crow learning, but Falcon as well. He liked the thought that he may be able to teach his Master something.

"Thank you Master," Crow said, rising. He bowed and after picking up his equipment, bowed again before leaving.

Falcon rose from the ground and picked up his sword and shield as well. He attached both to his waist and walked the opposite way.
